2. What Data We Collect

Account information

When you register, we collect your email address and name. This is necessary to create and manage your account.

Audio recordings

Sprachelo records your voice during speaking exercises, onboarding conversations, and pronunciation practice. These recordings are stored on our servers (Amazon Web Services, EU region) and are used to provide personalised feedback and track your progress. Recordings are retained for the duration of your active account and deleted when you close your account or request deletion.

Usage data

We collect information about how you use the app — pages visited, features used, session duration — to improve the service and for analytics purposes.

Payment data

Payments are processed by Stripe. We do not store your card details. Stripe's privacy policy applies to payment data: stripe.com/privacy.

3. Legal Basis for Processing

• Contract performance (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR): Account data and audio recordings are processed to deliver the service you signed up for.
• Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR): Usage analytics and service improvement.
• Legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR): Payment and transaction records retained as required by German tax law.

4. Third-Party Processors

We share data with the following categories of processors, all subject to data processing agreements:

• Cloud infrastructure provider — file and audio storage (servers located in the EU)
• Stripe — payment processing. Stripe's privacy policy applies: stripe.com/privacy
• Analytics provider — anonymised usage analytics to help us improve the service
• AI language processing providers — powering speaking feedback, transcription, and voice synthesis features
• Email delivery provider — sending transactional emails such as account confirmations and progress reports

5. Data Retention

• Account data: Retained until you close your account.
• Audio recordings: Retained for the duration of your active account. Deleted upon account closure or on request.
• Analytics data: Retained for 14 months per Google Analytics default settings.
• Payment records: Retained for 10 years as required by German commercial law.

6. Your Rights

Under GDPR, you have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Rectify inaccurate data
• Erase your data ("right to be forgotten")
• Restrict processing of your data
• Data portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format
• Object to processing based on legitimate interests

7. Cookies

We use session cookies required for the app to function, and Google Analytics cookies for usage tracking. You can disable analytics cookies in your browser settings.
